Chief Prosecutor Tazul Islam has stated that the trials for the shocking and brutal murders in Dhaka, which occurred during the student and public protests in July and August, will be prioritised.
He assured that the trials would be conducted in such a manner that no one, globally, could raise questions about the judicial process.
Speaking at a briefing at the International Crimes Tribunal on Tuesday afternoon (17 September), the chief prosecutor emphasised that these cases would be addressed before any others.
He also highlighted that the murder of Saeed in Rangpur is a key priority, alongside those from Dhaka.
Furthermore, he insisted that the trials would be so thoroughly conducted that no room for domestic or international criticism would remain.
“There is a certain nature to revolutions where everyone desires swift justice,” he explained.
“At the same time, people want the assurance that justice will not be flawed or subject to any criticism.”
He further added, “Even after the trials, no one across the world should be able to claim that these cases were handled like previous illegitimate processes. Therefore, I am urging the government to expedite the reconstitution of the tribunal. Once the tribunal is reformed, the work will proceed more swiftly."
