National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has stated that any election conducted without significant reforms and justice will not be accepted.

He made this remark while paying respects to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar on Wednesday (26 March).

In his statement, Nahid Islam expressed concern that there is an ongoing effort to impose the old constitution, while simultaneously conspiring to revive fascism.

He suggested that there is a push to hold elections quickly in order to gain power, which he believes is politically motivated.

"The time has come for us to build a democratic state system where no more blood needs to be spilt," he stated.

He went on to draw parallels between the liberation struggles of 1971 and 2024, asserting that the objectives of 1971 have been realised in the current era.

"What we sought in 1971, we have now achieved in 2024," he said.

"The individuals trying to create division between these two struggles are acting with dishonest intentions."

Nahid Islam further emphasised that the independence gained in 1971 and the present-day fight for democracy should not be seen as contradictory.

He made it clear that any attempt to bring a party into power without reforms or justice will be strongly opposed by the NCP.

"The people will not accept such a process; the NCP will resist it," he concluded.
