The Students Against Discrimination (SAD) and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee (JANAC) are set to unveil a new political party on 28 February, Sarjis Alam, chief organiser of JANAC, announced on Monday.

The formal declaration will take place at a rally on Manik Mia Avenue at 3:00 pm, Sarjis said.

Sarjis made the announcement during a press briefing at the Nagorik Committee's office in Bangla Motor this evening.

He further highlighted that the new political party will emerge with the leadership of students and the masses at its forefront, aligning with the revolutionary ideals of the July uprising to pave the way for a better Bangladesh.

Sarjis Alam said, "The most pressing need for a new Bangladesh is the establishment of a strong political party. Over the past seven months since the uprising, we have come to understand that achieving the vision of a new Bangladesh, inspired by the July spirit, will require a prolonged and determined effort. This struggle, built upon the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs, must focus on realizing the dream of a prosperous and inclusive nation."

He further emphasised the symbolic significance of launching the party in front of the National Parliament, saying, "Our commitment to this formation reflects the aspirations of 180 million people. For decades, the National Parliament has been exploited as a tool for autocracy and self-serving policymaking, rather than serving as a true platform for fulfilling the people's hopes and dreams. Our goal is to reclaim it as a space dedicated to realizing public aspirations."
