Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has acknowledged lapses in maintaining public security, conceding that the current law enforcement situation leaves no room for complacency.

Speaking to the media on Monday (24 February) before attending a workshop on "Law Enforcement with a Focus on Human Rights and Environment Amid Changing National Circumstances", he admitted shortcomings but stressed ongoing efforts to rectify them.

“We cannot deny our failures; there is no reason to,” he remarked.

“The state of law and order is such that we have no scope for self-satisfaction. However, we are striving, we are introspecting, and we are making immense efforts to overcome these failures.”

Nazrul further stated that the administration is operating within a structurally damaged system, particularly in the police force and judiciary. “We are working with a collapsed institution. Reviving it will take time,” he added.

Addressing concerns about the role of vested interests, he accused the fallen regime of attempting to destabilise the nation’s security.

“The ousted fascist forces possess thousands of crores of taka. With money and ill intent, the law and order situation can be disrupted. We are monitoring this closely,” he asserted.

He also mentioned that the home affairs adviser is actively working to improve security and that the matter is being discussed in coordination meetings.

On the ongoing judicial process, Nazrul emphasised the need for due process.

“Those against whom there is strong evidence must be brought to justice. At the same time, the innocent must not be subjected to unnecessary harassment,” he said, assuring that appropriate instructions would be given to ensure fairness in legal proceedings.
