The Election Commission (EC) is preparing for national elections in December but the authority over scheduling ultimately lies with the government, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Sanaullah has stated.
Speaking at a voter registration update on Tuesday (28 January) at Thakurgaon, Sanaullah responded to journalists' queries, clarifying the EC’s stance.
Addressing concerns over electoral reforms preceding the elections, he noted that reforms are a continuous process.
However, he assured that officials at the field level would be expected to discharge their duties with professionalism and impartiality.
The event was attended by Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana, Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zahidul Islam, District Election Officer Munjurul Islam, and other relevant officials and staff.
