Election Commission is committed to ensuring a credible and transparent national election, targeting late 2025 or early 2026, said Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Mashud.

"The polls will adhere to the traditional ballot system, a decision aimed at fostering trust and acceptance among the electorate," he said speaking at a dialogue session held on Thursday (23 January) at the Patuakhali District Election Office.

“We are working diligently to guarantee a fair and acceptable election. Our complete focus is currently on the national parliamentary polls, which will be conducted within the stipulated timeframe,” he added.

In preparation for the elections, the nationwide voter list update is in full swing, involving a robust team of 35,000 data collectors.

EC Mashud emphasised the critical role of responsibility among data collectors, acknowledging that errors in the voter list hinder citizens from accessing essential services.

He called for collective cooperation to address such discrepancies effectively.

The session was presided over by Senior Election Officer Khan Abi Shahanur Khan, with Mashud delivering the keynote address on the Election Commission's preparations and strategic plans for the upcoming polls.

Election officials from all upazilas in the district, election-related personnel, and members of the press attended the event.
