BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has said that the attempt to abolish the constitution, which he described as being written with the blood of martyrs, is regrettable. He stated that the constitution can be amended, but it should not be abolished.

Mirza Abbas made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the party's central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, on Sunday (29 December).

He criticised Students Against Discrimination for claiming the student and public movements as their own.

He said, "If there is something wrong with the constitution, it can be amended or rewritten," he said. "But to talk about 'burying' it is not appropriate. These are the words of fascism."

Speaking about the student and public movements, Mirza Abbas stated that while the movement in public universities was weakening, students from private universities, ordinary people, and political party leaders had taken to the streets.

Mirza Abbas also alleged that those involved in the recent fire incident at the Secretariat were working with government advisors.

Addressing the political future of BNP, he stated that the party is not focused on gaining power for its own sake but is committed to restoring the people's voting rights.

He reiterated that BNP seeks elections, the restoration of voting rights, and to come to power through free and fair elections, with the people's support.
