A man died after being hit by an iron rod falling from an under-construction building while he was passing by the site in front of Saat Masjid Housing in the city’s Mohammadpur area on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Hasan, 44, son of Fazal Ahmed of Juidandi village of Chattogram’s Anwara police station.
Family sources said Hasan left the house around 7:30 pm on Saturday and was going to the mosque to pray.
When he came near the Sixth Road area of Saat Masjid Housing, a rod used for piling the under-construction building fell over his head leaving him seriously injured, they said.
Locals later rescued him and took to Shikdar Medical College Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). But, the duty doctor pronounced him dead.
DMCH police camp in-charge (OC) Md Bachchu said the body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy.
He also said the matter has been informed to the Mohammadpur police station.
