21 injured in clash between rival village groups in Narail

At least 21 people were injured in a violent clash between two groups of villagers in Chhatrahazari village of Noagram Union, Lohagara upazila, Narail, on Thursday morning over a trivial dispute.

According to locals, tensions had been brewing for a long time between current union member Sayed Mina and former member Akhter Kazi. The conflict escalated when a cow belonging to Akhter’s brother, Khoka Kazi, strayed into Sayed Mina’s field around 7:30 am. An argument ensued when Sayed Mina’s son, Monirul, scolded the workers in the field, leading to a violent altercation between the two sides.

The confrontation quickly turned into a clash involving local weapons, resulting in injuries to 12 people from Akhter Kazi’s group and 9 from Sayed Mina’s group.

Among the injured, Kazi Sagar Hossain (48) was in critical condition and had been transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment, while the rest were receiving medical care at Narail Sadar Hospital and Lohagara Health Complex.

The injured from Akhter Kazi’s group include Akhter Kazi (48), Kazi Moni Mia (45), Kazi Samad (38), Kazi Ikhlas (50), Kazi Sabu (38), Kazi Saikat (55), Kazi Billal (55), Kazi Rejoan (20), Kazi Arif (48), Beauty Begum (55), and Kazi Shakib (22).

Those from Sayed Mina’s group are being treated at Lohagara Health Complex.

Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashiqur Rahman confirmed that police had been deployed to restore order, stating, “The situation is now under control. If a complaint is filed, a case will be registered, and those responsible will be arrested.”
