At least 29 people were injured in a clash between students of the Dhaka Polytechnic Institute and the Bangladesh University of Textiles (Butex) in the Saat Rasta area of the capital's Tejgaon on Sunday night.
The clash took place at the intersection of BITAC (Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Centre) in Tejgaon industrial area after 10 pm on Sunday (24 November), said Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Bikash Sarkar.
It is learnt that the clash between students of Butex's Aziz Hall and Dhaka Polytechnic Institute's Latif Hall initially broke out after Chhatra League workers entered the premises. Clashes took place in several phases. However, detailed information on the matter was not available.
Contacted, Bikash Sarkar said, "There was a clash among the students of the dormitories. We are working to control the situation."
The injured were rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The injured are - Emon (24), Utsob (28), Azad (28), Bulbul (28), Prashanto (28), Shishir (28), Taufiq (22), Rudra (26), Anan (25), Junaid (28), Soumik (28), Emon (20), Nahid (23), Rakib (20), Emon (22), Prabal (22), Ramzan (23), Md. Mithun (21), Imran (20), Nadim (20), Fahad (19), Khaled (19), Sohan (22), Amin (22), Rifat Bishwas (25), Tapu (20), Mehedi (21) and Prartho (28).
Confirming the matter, in-charge of the police camp at DMCH Hospital, inspector Md. Faruk said, “Some 29 students have been brought to the hospital's emergency department in connection with the clash between Dhaka Polytechnic Institute and Butex students. They are undergoing treatment in different wards of the emergency department.”
