The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 23 individuals, including former Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman and noted economist Abul Barakat, over the alleged misappropriation of Tk287 crore linked to Ennatex Group.

According to ACC sources, the case was registered on Thursday (20 February) at the commission’s integrated district office in Dhaka.

Case documents reveal that the accused are alleged to have facilitated the embezzlement of Tk287 crore from Janata Bank under the guise of loans issued to Ennatex Group.

The list of defendants includes prominent figures from the financial sector, with accusations of collusion in fraudulent financial practices.

The case statement further alleges that Atiur Rahman, along with his associates, engaged in unethical manoeuvres to siphon off public funds.

However, in 2022, an ACC probe into irregularities in loan disbursement reportedly concluded without finding substantive evidence, leading to the previous closure of the investigation.

The case has reignited concerns over financial transparency and regulatory oversight within the banking sector.
