The interim government has formed an 11-member Media Reform Commission with journalist Kamal Ahmed at the helm.
The scope of the commission’s work has also been defined, according to a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Monday (18 November).
It noted that the commission, created following directives from the Chief Adviser, aims to formulate proposals for essential reforms to make the media independent, strong, and objective.
The commission's other members include Professor Geetiara Nasreen from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University; Shamsul H. Zahid, Editor of The Financial Express; Akhtar Hossain Khan, Secretary of the Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB); a representative from the Association of Television Owners (ATCO); Syed Abdal Ahmed, former General Secretary of the National Press Club; Fahim Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Jamuna Television; Jimmy Amir, Convener of the Media Support Network; Mostafa Sabuj, Bogura district correspondent for The Daily Star; Titu Dutta Gupta, Deputy Editor of The Business Standard; and Abdullah Al Mamun, representing students.
