The crescent moon of Shawwal 1446 Hijri has been sighted in Bangladesh, confirming that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated nationwide on Monday (31 March).

The announcement came after the National Moon Sighting Committee convened at the Islamic Foundation office in Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Sunday (30 March) evening.

The meeting, presided over by Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain, confirmed the moon sighting.

"As the moon has been sighted, Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed across the country on Monday," the adviser stated.

The decision followed a meeting of the committee at 6:30pm, where officials assessed moon sighting reports before making the formal declaration.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia had already sighted the Shawwal moon on Saturday, celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday after completing 29 days of fasting.
