The portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been removed from the Darbar Hall of the President's Office and residence, Bangabhaban.
This development was shared on Monday (11 November) at noon through a Facebook post by Mahfuj Alam, an adviser to the interim government.
In his Facebook post, Mahfuz Alam stated, "The image of the fascist Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who rose to prominence post-1971, has been removed from the Darbar Hall. It is a matter of shame for us that we were unable to remove his portrait from Bangabhaban until after 5 August."
Expressing regret, he wrote that as long as the "July Spirit" remains within the people, the former leader would not be visible anywhere.
Mahfuj Alam wrote, "Awami League must acknowledge and apologise for the actions of Sheikh Mujib and his daughter, encompassing the undemocratic '72 Constitution, famine, the embezzlement of crores of taka, and the extrajudicial killings of thousands of dissidents and opposition members during 1972-75 and 2009-2024. Only with such an admission can discussions on the pre-1971 Sheikh Mujib take place."
He insisted there would be no compromise until apologies are made and justice is served against fascist elements.
