The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended two individuals, including Sakhawat Molla, the personal assistant to Nazmul Hossain Papon, former youth and sports minister and Member of Parliament for Kishoreganj-6, in connection with allegations of an assault on students and citizens during an anti-discrimination rally.

According to RAB, the arrests were made following an incident on 19 July, when a protest against discrimination by students and the general public was disrupted by attacks in the Lakshmipur and Kamalpur areas of Bhairab Thana in Kishoreganj, leaving several people injured.

The suspects, identified as Sakhawat Molla, Papon’s personal assistant, and Awlad Hekim Rayhan, were taken into custody in an operation carried out in the Dhanmondi area of the capital on Saturday (3 November), said Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous, director of the RAB Legal and Media Wing.

The RAB disclosed that three separate complaints were filed by Mamun Mia, Rubel Mia and Alam Sarkar at Bhairab police station following the attack, which led RAB-14 to initiate an investigation.

The suspects, who had reportedly gone into hiding to evade arrest, were located through extensive intelligence gathering and analysis by RAB-14.

This operation was part of an ongoing effort by RAB to bring all individuals involved in the incident to justice. Further actions are underway to apprehend additional suspects connected to the attack.
