Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch have arrested former Awami League lawmaker and chairman of Bengal Group, Morshed Alam.
He was taken into custody on the night of 8 April from the capital’s upscale Gulshan area.
Confirming the arrest, chief of DMP's DB, Rezaul Karim Mallik, said Morshed Alam was apprehended in relation to several cases.
“He was arrested from Gulshan. Multiple cases have been filed against him,” Mallik stated.
Apart from heading Bengal Group, Morshed Alam also serves as chairman of private television channel RTV.
He was first elected to parliament in 2014 from Noakhali-2 (comprising parts of Senbagh and Sonaimuri upazilas) during the 10th national election.
He was subsequently re-elected from the same constituency in both the 11th and 12th parliamentary polls.
