Students of Government Titumir College staged a demonstration on Thursday (30 January) morning, blocking the road in front of the institution’s main gate as they pressed for its elevation to a university.
The protesters outlined a seven-point charter of demands, including autonomous university status for the college, the publication of an academic calendar, the establishment of a dedicated university administration, and the initiation of admissions for the 2024-25 academic session.
Rasel Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station, said that students had obstructed both lanes of the road from around 11:30am.
As of 1:30pm, the blockade was still in place.
The agitating students warned that they would escalate their movement if their demands were not addressed.
