In a move to facilitate smooth travel for the public during Eid-ul-Fitr, the interim government has declared 3 April a public holiday by executive order.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Council of Advisers on Thursday (20 March), with the aim of reducing congestion and ensuring a hassle-free journey for holidaymakers travelling across the country for the festivities.

Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the most significant religious celebrations for Muslims, marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

It traditionally sees a massive surge in travel as people return to their hometowns to celebrate with their families.

Recognising this, the government has taken the step to provide an additional day off to ease pressure on transport systems and enhance public convenience.

This announcement is expected to offer relief to millions of travellers, particularly those commuting from major cities to rural areas.

Transport operators and relevant authorities have also been instructed to take necessary measures to manage the increased demand efficiently.

The public holiday on 3 April will supplement the official Eid holidays, providing an extended break for the nation to celebrate the occasion peacefully.
