Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said a vested quarter that he termed as "Awami League cohort", is orchestrating deliberate attempts to destabilise the nation through well-funded criminal operations.
Speaking from his residence in Baridhara DOHS at a press conference called at 3:05am on Monday (24 February), he declared: "I shall make rest impossible for those seeking to destabilise our nation. They shall find no quarter, day or night."
The adviser also said he has directed law enforcement agencies to intensify their patrol operations with immediate effect.
"We shall ensure these troublemakers find no foothold anywhere," he stated.
In what observers are describing as an unprecedented nighttime briefing, the adviser disclosed that certain elements aligned with the Awami League are "spending substantial sums" in their destabilisation efforts.
However, he expressed confidence that enhanced security measures, set to commence Monday, would yield positive results.
"The law enforcement agencies remain vigilant," the adviser assured, adding that his forces would take swift action wherever incidents occur. He emphasised that there would be "zero tolerance" for any security personnel found negligent in their duties.
The stark warning comes amid increasing political tensions in the country, with the home affairs adviser making it clear that no leniency would be shown to those attempting to disturb public order, regardless of their political affiliations.
