The interim government has reiterated its commitment to resolving the Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi murder case swiftly and justly, stated Syeda Rizwana Hasan, advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources.
Speaking at the ‘Sagar-Runi Human Rights Photo Award’ exhibition at the National Museum on Tuesday evening, Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan emphasized that the case remains one of the government’s top legal priorities.
“The perpetrators of this brutal murder must be brought to justice. There is no reason for the case to remain unresolved,” she stated.
Expressing concern over the prolonged delay in submitting the investigation report, she stated, “Repeated extensions have been sought in the past, yet no conclusive report has been submitted. This has raised serious doubts. The victims' families have endured years of agony. Justice must prevail—not only to provide them solace but also to prevent such heinous crimes in the future,” she added.
The exhibition was attended by Mahir Sarwar Megh, the only son of Sagar and Runi, along with their relatives, friends, human rights activists, journalists, and individuals from various professional backgrounds.
Prior to addressing the gathering, Hasan visited the exhibition, reflecting on the lives and contributions of the slain couple.
