A Dhaka court has set a new date for the submission of the investigation report in the Sagar-Runi murder case. This marks the 111th time that the court has extended the deadline for the submission of the report.

Monday (9 September) was set as the day for the investigation report to be presented. However, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) was once again unable to submit the report.

As a result, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque’s court has rescheduled the submission date.

Sagar Sarwar, the news editor of private television channel Maasranga, and Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were murdered in the early hours of 11 February 2012 in their rented apartment in West Rajabazar, Dhaka.

Their five-year-old son, Mahir Sarwar Megh, was present in the flat at the time of the murder.

After the initial investigation by Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police and the Detective Branch of Police, the case was handed over to the RAB on 18 April 2012.

In connection with the murder, eight individuals, including Runi’s friend Tanvir Rahman, were arrested.

Despite multiple remands, no confessional statements have been obtained from any of the accused. Subsequently, Tanvir and Pallash were released on bail, while the others remain in custody.
