Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader's house was vandalised and set on fire by students and local residents.

The incident took place in Basurhat municipality at around 1:15 pm, where Protesters demolished a two-story building—belonging to Quader’s younger brother, former Basurhat Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza—using hammers and shovels, and later vandalised another property linked to his younger brother Shahadat Mirza.

Locals reported a similar attack on August 5, when several homes and vehicles were torched following the fall of the Awami League government. The family had reportedly been in hiding since then.

Md Ariful Islam, coordinator of the Noakhali branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, stated that the attack was fuelled by public resentment over alleged abuses by Quader and his associates.

Police have yet to comment on the incident.
