A group of students injured during the July Movement has taken to the streets of Shishu Mela Road in the capital, demanding swift rehabilitation, urgent medical treatment, and the abolition of the category-based aid system.

Their demonstration has led to a complete halt in traffic on both sides of the road, said Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Golam Azam.

On Sunday (2 February) at approximately 11:30am, injured protesters receiving treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (commonly known as Pangu Hospital) and the National Institute of Ophthalmology initiated their sit-in to press for their demands.

"The protesters have completely blocked the road in front of Shyamoli Pangu Hospital, significantly disrupting vehicular movement," he stated.

The demonstrators are calling for immediate rehabilitation of those injured in the July Movement and the removal of the category-based system that, they argue, has created disparities in the allocation of aid and support.

They contend that the categorisation process discriminates against certain victims.

Additionally, they are urging the government to facilitate advanced medical treatment abroad for those with severe injuries.
