Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Maksud Kamal, along with the provosts of seven residential halls, resigned from their positions on Saturday (10 August).

The provosts who resigned include those from Rokeya Hall, Shamsun Nahar Hall, Bijoy Ekattor Hall, Bangabandhu Hall, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall, and Salimullah Muslim Hall.

This development follows a protest rally on Friday, where a group of DU students demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellors, treasurer, all provosts, and all members of the university's senate and syndicate.

Professor ASM Maksud Kamal had been appointed as the 29th Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University on November 4, 2023, succeeding former Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman.

In a related move, 13 out of the 14 members of DU’s proctorial body submitted their resignation letters to the Vice-Chancellor yesterday, citing personal reasons.
