Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has been appointed Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University for a four-year term

Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Dhaka University, has been appointed pro-vice chancellor of the institution.

The Ministry of Education issued an official notification regarding his appointment on Thursday (12 September).

The notification stated that President Shahbuddin, who is also the chancellor of DU had approved the appointment of Professor Mamun Ahmed as pro-vice-chancellor under Article 13(1) of the Dhaka University Order 1973, with specific conditions outlined for the role.

The terms of his appointment include a tenure of four years, starting from the date of his joining the position.

He will receive a salary and benefits equivalent to his current position and will be entitled to other benefits associated with the post according to regulations.

Moreover, he is required to reside on the university campus full-time and will exercise the powers and responsibilities assigned to him by the university’s constitution and the Vice-Chancellor. 

Prior to this, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, from the Department of Development Studies, was appointed as the 30 vice-chancellor of Dhaka University.

His appointment followed the resignation of Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, the 29 vice-chancellor, who stepped down on 10 August citing personal reasons.
