On August 7, at around 2:30 pm, an attempt of a “hostile takeover” of the current BGMEA board was made by a group of members from the FORUM Panel and unidentified individuals, a BGMEA press release says.

“This horrific event has further tarnished the international credibility of the largest foreign currency earner of the country,” it adds.

According to the BGMEA press release, the incident took place when the board members were already addressing the current difficulties and structuring a roadmap. “Preparators were seen to engage in violent behavior including toppling the security gate, getting into fist fights and unlawfully demanding the takeover of the current board,” it says.

BGMEA says the mob included over 100 unidentified individuals and members from the FORUM panel listed below:

1. Faisal Samad owner of Surma Garments ltd.

2. Mijanur Rahman owner of Fabrica Knit Composite Ltd.

3. Majumdar Arifur Rahman owner of Magpie Composite Textile Ltd.

4. Md. Mesbha Uddin Ali owner of Wega Apparels Ltd.

5. Shehabudduza Chowdhury owner of Amity Design ltd.

6. Rashid Ahmed Hossaini owner of Nexus Sweaters Inds. Ltd

7. Inamul Haq Khan owner of Ananta Sportswear Ltd.

There were many others as well, it says.

“Staff and board members who witnessed this violence are in a state of shock… We condemn such atrocious behavior and identify these preparators similar to those who are intentionally triggering unrest and hindering the reformation of our country in these trying times,” BGMEA says.
