There have been no terrorism-related concerns in Bangladesh since the interim government took office, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said.

Speaking during visits to several police stations, including Khilkhet, Badda, and Bhatara, on Wednesday (2 April) to exchange Eid greetings and review operations, he stated that the country faces no extremist threats.

In response to a report published by The New York Times, Chowdhury refrained from commenting directly on any newspaper’s claims but maintained that there was no reason for alarm regarding terrorism in Bangladesh.

He noted that while there was a brief power vacuum following 5 August, the situation has gradually improved.

“Now, everyone is working together. Our security forces are tirelessly ensuring stability, and this progress will continue,” he said.

Addressing concerns over legal proceedings, he acknowledged that many names have surfaced in case documents, including individuals who were abroad at the time of certain incidents.

“We are conducting a proper investigation, and no innocent person will be punished,” he assured.
