Three people died and 18 others fell ill after consuming 'toxic liquor' in Kadakati village, Ashashuni upazila of Satkhira district, on Eid day. The incident occurred following a drinking spree on the night of Monday (31 March) in Tetulia Bazar.
The deceased have been identified as Nazmul Hossain, 35, son of Farhad Gazi; Tuitu Khan, 38, son of Zafar Sardar; and Imran Hossain, 25, son of Kuddus Sardar, all from Tetulia village. According to locals, around 15-20 individuals gathered in the area and consumed the illicit liquor, which led to them falling ill shortly after.
Noman Hossain, the officer-in-charge of Ashashuni Police Station, confirmed that the affected individuals were rushed to Ashashuni Upazila Health Complex and Satkhira Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, three of the victims died on Wednesday morning due to the severe effects of the toxic substance.
The remaining patients are being closely monitored, with seven to eight individuals reported to be in critical condition. Health authorities are investigating the source of the toxic liquor, and local police have initiated a probe into the incident.
