A 20-year-old insurance employee was stabbed to death by a mugger in Bandar Bazar area of Sylhet city on Tuesday afternoon.
Deceased Shihab Uddin was son of Suman Ahmed from Rautkhai village in Tajpur under Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet. He worked for an insurance company.
Police and witnesses said Shihab was walking past Karim Ullah Market when the mugger, identified as Rana, attempted to snatch his mobile phone and flee. When Shihab grabbed hold of him, Rana stabbed him with a knife.
Locals rushed him to Osmani Medical College Hospital where physicians declared him dead, they said.
Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, Mohammad Moin Uddin Shipon, confirmed the matter saying that the mugger Rana Ahmed resides in the Kadamtali area of Dakshin Surma in Sylhet.
Any more details about the accused could not be known immediately, he said.
