All secondary and higher secondary educational institutions, including polytechnic institutes, will remain closed until further notice.
"In consideration of the safety of school and college-going students, all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions and polytechnic institutes under the Ministry of Education will remain closed until further notice," said Abul Khayer, public relations officer at the Ministry of Education.
The announcement comes in the wake of widespread protests by students against the quota system in government jobs.
Protesters blocked various roads in Dhaka, including major thoroughfares such as Pragati Sarani, Motijheel Shapla Chattar, Uttara, and Beribadh Road.
The protests, which began earlier in the day, saw significant participation from students of private universities, joining their peers from public universities who have been at the forefront of this movement.
It also saw involvement from students of various schools and colleges in the capital's Science Lab and Dhanmondi areas.
Dressed in both uniforms and civilian clothes, these students took to the streets to voice their discontent with the current quota system.
