BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday alleged that there exists a "telepathic relationship" between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the judiciary, as her thoughts are reflected in court orders.
"It seems to us that the Awami League government has a telepathic connection with the judiciary. What Sheikh Hasina thinks comes through the court verdicts. How does this telepathic relationship happen?” he said.
Speaking at a press conference, the BNP leader questioned why the court issued an order over the reinstatement of quota in government jobs when the government revoked it by issuing a circular.
"The innocent students are protesting on the streets, leaving their classes. They are staging demonstrations every day. Shouldn’t they do it? Is it unfair and unjust?” he said.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) arranged the press conference at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office seeking the whereabouts of its Dhaka College unit vice president Atiqur Rahman Russell. JCD central leaders alleged that Russell remained missing since he was picked up by plainclothes police in the capital’s Azimpur area on July 1.
Turning to the issue of the arrest of driver Abed Ali on charges of his involvement in leaking out question papers of BCS and other examinations under the Public Service Commission, Rizvi said brilliant students are being deprived of jobs through competitive examinations due to the question paper leakage during Sheikh Hasina's rule.
He also said those who got cadre services through participating in exams with leaked question papers are becoming officers and deputy commissioners (DCs) during the Awami League regime, as there is no value of competition now.
"That's how we heard that DCs and SPs used to be general secretaries and joint secretaries of Chhatra League in various universities and their hall units. How did so many Chhatra League leaders manage to become DCs and SPs? All of this was facilitated through the leakage of exam questions," the BNP leader said.
He accused the current government of introducing a barbaric culture of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing in the country.
“This regime has resorted to killings and enforced disappearance just to protect Sheikh Hasina's throne. Free and fair election is the biggest fear of Sheikh Hasina,” Rizvi said.
He alleged that JCD leaders and activists and the democracy-loving people are being made to disappear at the behest of the Prime Minister to keep her power protected.
“We all know that Atiqur Rahman Russell is now in the hands of law enforcement agencies. They’re doing it in a planned way against democratic student organizations and the BNP to create tension and anxiety,” the BNP leader observed.
Replying to a question, Rizvi alleged that the government has once again resorted to inhumane approaches like planned disappearances.
“We strongly condemn it. We call upon the government to immediately return Atiqur Rahman Russell to his father,” he said.
Otherwise, Rizvi warned that Chhatra Dal will wage a strong movement against the government.
BNP Joint Secretary General Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, Student Affairs Secretary Rakibul Islam Bakul, JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, among others, were present.
