Three-day int'l seafood show to begin in Dhaka on 17 July

The three-day event will feature various sessions on aquaculture and seafood, focusing on the potential, challenges, and solutions for the fisheries sector in Bangladesh

Bangladesh will host the International Aquaculture and Seafood Show 2024 from 17 to 19 July at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdur Rahman made this announcement at a programme in a city hotel today (8 June). 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the show as the chief guest.

Abdur Rahman said that the Bangladesh International Aquaculture and Seafood Show will serve as a milestone in advancing the aquaculture and seafood sectors. The event will provide an essential platform for stakeholders to exchange experiences and enhance cooperation.

He said that, under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership and the implementation of timely policies and plans, the country's total fish production has now reached nearly 5 million metric tons annually.

Abdur Rahman also stated that according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, Bangladesh ranks second in inland fisheries production. 

He expressed optimism that Bangladesh will eventually become the top producer of freshwater fish.

He urged all stakeholders to continue their efforts to achieve the target of producing 8.5 million metric tons of fish by 2041.

The minister called for collective efforts to increase aquaculture and marine fish production, to reach $5 billion in exports by 2030. 

The three-day event will feature various sessions on aquaculture and seafood, focusing on the potential, challenges, and solutions for the fisheries sector in Bangladesh. The show will host 100 stalls from 35 countries.
