Road communication between Khagrachhari and the rest of the country was restored after 3 hours after a landslide triggered by incessant rain had cut off the roads.

The landslide occurred in the Sapahar area of Alutila around 5am on Tuesday (2 July), said the fire service.

"Work to restore connectivity began almost right after the incident. However, there is a risk of landslides at some other places on the Alutila road. It is raining in Khagrachari. Vehicles will not be able to ply through the submerged roads until the rain stops,"  Khagrachari Fire Service Civil Defense Leader Md Jasimuddin said.

"Apart from this, the low-lying areas of the district are getting flooded due to heavy rains and landslides," he added.

Besides, 25 villages under the Merung and Kabakhali union were flooded due to non-stop heavy rain.

Baghaihat on Khagrachari Sajek Road has been closed down due to risks of landslides.

The closure of the communication between Khagrachari and Sajek resulted in many tourists being stranded in Sajek.
