Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in six divisions including the capital Dhaka. At this time, landslides are also feared in the hilly areas of the country.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Sylhet, Barishal and Chattogram divisions from 10am on Friday in the next 72 hours due to the active monsoon over Bangladesh," the BMD said in its latest weather update on Friday (28 June).

There is a risk of landslides in the hilly areas of Chattogram, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Cox's Bazar and Bandarban districts due to the heavy rainfalls, it added.

Gusty winds may blow over the North Bay of Bengal; Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to hoist local warning signal number 3.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay of Bengal have been asked to approach the coast with caution until further notice.
