The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has called upon the countrymen not to be misguided by vested quarters spreading rumors about the security of St Martin’s Island, following reports of firing between the Myanmar military and the rebel group Arakan Army at the border near the island.

According to an ISPR press release on Sunday, Bangladeshi boats in the Naf River and its estuary have been hit by stray bullets due to the ongoing conflict. In response, the Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry issued a protest note to the Myanmar government on 12 June.

The press release also stated that the Myanmar Navy is currently conducting multiple operations near the Myanmar border. The Myanmar Navy has informed the Bangladesh Navy about the positioning of their warships near the maritime boundary close to St. Martin’s Island. It is important to note that this internal conflict in Myanmar is concentrated on the mainland and adjacent coastal areas.

Furthermore, the ISPR emphasised that several ships from the Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard are actively monitoring the movements of Myanmar’s vessels. These ships are conducting regular patrols within Bangladesh's maritime boundaries to ensure the security of the area around St. Martin’s Island.

The ISPR reassured the public that the situation is under control and that the security forces are vigilant in maintaining the sovereignty and safety of the nation’s borders.
