Two construction workers were killed and 11 others injured as a truck hit a pickup at Sreepur in Gazipur at around 4:30 am on Saturday (4 May).
Belal Ahmed, the station officer of Sripur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the deceased were identified as Russell Mia (25), and Abu Sufian (25).
Ahmed said, “Some 13 workers were going towards Mawna from Sreepur for welding work with a mixer machine on a pickup. As soon as the pickup carrying them reached in front of the Bhangnahati councilor's residence on Sreepur-Mawna regional road, a truck hit them from behind, leaving Russell Mia dead on the spot and 12 others injured. Abu Sufian was declared dead while the injured were sent to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sreepur Police Station Quddus said that the bodies of the victims have been recovered. Legal action will be taken in this regard, he added.
