The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has instructed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to investigate allegations against Milton Samaddar, the Founder of Child and Old Age Care.

A notification was sent to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and the Director-General of the Social Welfare Ministry on Sunday (28 April) in this regard.

Citing a report from the national daily Kalbela, NHRC stated, “The report published in the national daily Kalbela reveals a cruel and barbaric scenario underlying the purported human service. The allegations against Milton Samaddar of organ trafficking under the guise of medical treatment, targeting sick, helpless, and innocent people picked up from the streets, are deeply troubling, appalling, and a gross violation of human rights.”

“NHRC believes that the information presented in the report concerning Milton Samaddar's alleged detention of seriously ill patients in his institution instead of providing necessary hospital care, the fabrication of death certificates by unqualified individuals, and the desecration of deceased bodies must be thoroughly investigated,” added the release.

The national watchdog body has urged the Social Welfare Ministry to scrutinize similar organisations.
