Internet prices are set to fall across three key tiers of service in Bangladesh, according to Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, special assistant to the chief adviser at the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

In a Facebook post published on on Monday (21 April) morning, Tayyeb announced that Fibre@Home, a major telecommunications infrastructure provider, is lowering tariffs across its three levels of service. The reductions include a 10% cut at the ITC (International Terrestrial Cable) level, a 10% reduction at the IIG (International Internet Gateway) tier, and a 15% decrease in NTTN (Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network) charges.

“These reductions represent a significant step toward a more accessible internet ecosystem,” Taiyeb wrote, adding that a total of three to four tiers within the country's internet licence regime are now seeing price adjustments.

He also urged mobile operators to follow suit and reduce data charges for end users. The appeal comes as part of a broader move to enhance affordability and digital inclusion.

Taiyeb further noted that Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) has already implemented a 10% price reduction across all its services at the international gateway level.

Meanwhile, the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) has announced that its members will now offer 10 Mbps internet connections at Tk500 to residential users.

Additionally, on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, state-owned mobile operator Teletalk introduced a 10% discount on its data services.
