Thundershowers loom over Dhaka

Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary squalls in Dhaka and surrounding areas by midday, with a slight drop in daytime temperatures expected

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds have been forecast for Dhaka and its surrounding areas by midday, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

A slight drop in daytime temperatures is also anticipated.

The forecast, issued on Friday (18 April) for the six-hour period from 7am, states that skies over Dhaka may remain partly to temporarily cloudy during this window.

BMD warned that brief spells of rain or thundershowers, along with temporary gusty or squally winds, may affect the region.

Winds from the west or south-west are expected to blow at speeds of 10–15 kilometres per hour, with gusts potentially reaching 40–50 kilometres per hour.

At 6am on Friday, the temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 22.8 degrees Celsius with relative humidity at 89%.

Thursday's maximum temperature stood at 30.6 degrees Celsius, while today’s minimum has been noted at 21.9 degrees Celsius.
