The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi marked Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year on Monday (14 April) a daylong celebration steeped in cultural vibrancy and traditional charm.

High Commissioner-designate Riaz Hamidullah attended the festivities, which drew diplomats from various embassies and high commissions, members of civil society, and media representatives in the Indian capital.

A sumptuous lunch was laid out, featuring quintessential Bengali fare — from a variety of flavourful bhortas to the seasonal delicacy kathaler echore (young jackfruit curry).

A dedicated pitha stall offered guests a sweet taste of tradition, with an assortment of homemade Bengali confections.

The cultural segment of the programme showcased the talents of both high commission staff and professional performers.

Through music, dance, and poetry, the event paid homage to the enduring artistic heritage of Bengal.

More than a celebration, the event fostered goodwill and cultural exchange, reflecting the shared spirit of South Asian unity and offering a vibrant window into Bangladesh’s rich traditions.
