The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on Tuesday regarding the scope, modalities, format, and organization of a high-level conference on the situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar. The resolution was sponsored by Malaysia and Finland.

During the open debate, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Md Salahuddin Noman Choudhury, intervened and called for a vote after Russia proposed amendments that Bangladesh did not accept.

The President of the General Assembly facilitated the vote, resulting in 141 countries supporting the resolution. No country voted against it, while 10 nations abstained.

The adoption of this resolution marks a significant step toward addressing the Rohingya crisis, aligning with Bangladesh’s plans to hold a special summit on the issue in New York this September.
