BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday expressed deep concern over the country’s political situation, alleging that a conspiracy is underway to damage the reputation of the army and create a rift between the military and the people.
“Someone, somewhere, may be trying to instigate something. We are witnessing attempts to make the army controversial and turn it against the people,” he said while addressing an iftar programme virtually.
Calling for national unity, Tarique urged all patriotic citizens to resist the alleged conspiracy.
The BNP media cell organized the event in honor of journalists from various print, electronic, and online media outlets.
Referring to recent political developments, he said, “Just as we saw efforts to pit reform against elections, similar attempts are now being made to position the military against the people. There is a clear plot behind this.”
Tarique emphasized that the scheme could be countered if all patriotic citizens remained vigilant and united. “We must tackle this plot at any cost,” he asserted.
He also urged journalists to play a crucial role in countering misinformation and guiding the nation through the crisis.
“If you, from your respective positions, present the facts and accurate information regarding the various issues being used to create confusion, we will surely be able to thwart the plot,” he said.
