Court orders arrest of Qamrul, Kamal and Atiqul in murder cases

Atiqul and Qamrul were shown arrested in another case filed with Badda Police Station over the killing of Sajib Hawlader

A Dhaka court today ordered the arrest of former food minister advocate Qamrul Islam, former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam, and former state minister for industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder in separate cases related to killings during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak issued the orders after police presented the three before the court and requested to show them arrested in the cases. Following the decision, the court sent them back to jail.

Qamrul and Kamal were shown arrested in a case filed with Kafrul Police Station over the murder of Torikul Islam Rubel. Meanwhile, Atiqul and Qamrul were shown arrested in another case filed with Badda Police Station over the killing of Sajib Hawlader.

Atiqul Islam was arrested from the city's Mohakhali DOHS area on October 16 last year. Advocate Qamrul Islam was detained from Uttara Sector 12 on 18 November 2024, while Kamal Ahmed Mojumder was arrested from Gulshan on 19 November 2024.
