DNA samples from three accused in the rape case of an eight-year-old girl in Magura were collected on Tuesday night for forensic testing.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Md Mirajul Islam, the samples have been sent to the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) DNA profiling laboratory in Dhaka for analysis.

The victim’s mother filed a case on 8 March following the brutal incident, and all accused were subsequently arrested.

The child is currently on life support at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.

The attack occurred when the victim was visiting her sister’s in-laws’ house in Nijnanduali village, Magura Sadar upazila. She went to bed with her sister but was found missing in the middle of the night. After a frantic search, she was discovered unconscious a few yards from the house.

She was initially treated at Magura General Hospital before being transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital as her condition worsened. She was later moved to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) before being shifted to CMH, Dhaka.

Meanwhile, university students, including those from Dhaka University, staged protests early Sunday, demanding the death penalty for the accused.

Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury visited the victim at CMH on Sunday, assuring that the perpetrators would not be spared and that the state is committed to ensuring justice.
