Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a mass sit-in protest in front of the Chief Adviser’s Office, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of its Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam.

The demonstration is scheduled to take place on 25 February from 2pm to 4pm.

The party’s Secretary General, former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar, made the announcement on Friday (21 February).

In a statement, he alleged that ATM Azharul Islam has been imprisoned for over 13 years on what he described as false and fabricated charges under the previous "fascist regime."

He asserted that, following the regime’s downfall, many political detainees affiliated with anti-fascist movements have been released.

However, despite six and a half months passing since the interim government assumed power, Azharul Islam remains incarcerated, a situation he claimed has left the nation "shocked and bewildered."

He further stated that Jamaat-e-Islami will hold the mass sit-in to intensify the demand for Azharul Islam’s release, with Jamaat’s Ameer, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, attending as the chief guest.

Urging the public to participate in the protest, he called on the nation to stand in solidarity and ensure the release of ATM Azharul Islam through collective action.
