The National Consensus Commission is set to hold its inaugural meeting with political parties this afternoon (February 15) at the Foreign Service Academy.
Chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, the meeting is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm, BSS reported citing sources from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
A delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is set to attend the meeting, according to BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan.
Representatives from other political parties are also expected to join the discussion, signaling the start of a collaborative approach toward reform.
The interim government has formed a seven-member National Consensus Commission to engage political parties in deliberations over recommendations from six specialised commissions.
In addition to Professor Yunus, the commission includes several notable figures.
The other members of the commission are Prof Ali Riaz, head of the Constitutional Reform Commission; Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, head of Public Administration Reform Commission; Safar Raj Hossain, head of Police Reform Commission; Badiul Alam Majumder, head of Election Reform Commission; Justice Emdadul Haque, head of Judiciary Reform Commission; and Dr Iftekharuzzaman, head of Anti-Corruption Reform Commission.
The National Consensus Commission will complete its consensus building tasks within its six-month tenure.
The Chief Adviser's Office (CAO) is providing secretarial service to the commission.
