At least six individuals, including four foreign nationals, were injured when a bus veered off the road and crashed onto the footpath near the InterContinental Dhaka on Minto Road at approximately 11:30pm on Monday (10 February).

"The incident occurred when the driver of a Shikar Paribahan bus suddenly fell ill, losing control of the vehicle and colliding with the left side of the footpath in front of the five-star hotel," said Ramna Police Station Sub-Inspector Abul Khair.

“The bus driver has been detained,” the police official said, though he declined to provide further details regarding the driver’s condition or the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Speaking about the injured, he stated, “We have learned that at least four of the victims are foreign nationals and may have been guests at the InterContinental Hotel.”

Hotel officials promptly transported the injured to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital before later transferring them to Square Hospital for further treatment.

The identities of the injured individuals have not yet been confirmed.
