A catastrophic fire broke out in a makeshift residential structure at Jafar Saudagar Colony, located on the western bank of Baluardighi under Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram city.
The inferno claimed the lives of two individuals and left three others critically injured, who are currently receiving treatment.
The blaze ignited at approximately 6:40am on Monday (10 February).
Upon receiving the distress call, four units from the Chandanpura and Lamabazar fire stations swiftly responded, launching an extensive firefighting operation. The flames were brought under control by 8am.
The identities of the deceased and the injured remain undisclosed at this time.
According to Md Abdul Malek, assistant director of the Fire Service in the Chattogram region, the fire engulfed a five-room makeshift house, severely injuring five individuals.
They were promptly rescued and transported to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where two succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
Preliminary assessments estimate that property worth approximately Tk15 lakh was destroyed in the blaze, while assets valued at Tk35 lakh were salvaged, as confirmed by the fire service official.
CMCH police outpost confirmed the fatalities, stating that fire service personnel rescued five individuals from the scene and rushed them to the hospital.
The attending physicians declared two dead upon arrival, while the remaining three have been admitted to Ward 36. Their identities have yet to be ascertained.
