Police Headquarters has initiated measures to reinstate dismissed police personnel who have triumphed in their appeals at the appellate tribunal. This information was disclosed in a press release issued late on Saturday.

According to Inamul Haque Sagar, Assistant Inspector General (Media) at Police Headquarters, a total of 1,522 applications concerning the reinstatement of police officers dismissed during the tenure of the previous government have been received.

The breakdown of these applicants includes 1,025 constables, 79 naiks, 180 assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) and acting ASIs, 200 sub-inspectors (SI), sergeants, and traffic sergeants (TSI), 10 inspectors, and 28 non-police personnel.

To scrutinise these applications, a committee led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) was formed in August last year. The committee has since submitted its report along with recommendations.

Inamul Haque stated that steps are being taken by Police Headquarters to reinstate those who have won their appeals in the appellate tribunal.

However, reinstatement considerations could not extend to individuals who did not file departmental appeals against their dismissal orders due to legal constraints.

Similarly, those who refrained from challenging their dismissal or removal orders in the administrative tribunal are not eligible for reinstatement on legal grounds.

Furthermore, cases involving allegations of moral turpitude, financial corruption, or other criminal offences have not been considered for reinstatement.

Inamul Haque emphasised that Police Headquarters is earnestly working to ensure justice for dismissed officers.

He urged these officers to refrain from engaging in activities contrary to disciplinary norms.
