The Petrol Pump Owners and Workers’ Unity Council of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions has declared an indefinite suspension of all fuel sales and distribution, effective from 8am on Wednesday (5 February).

The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement signed by Bangladesh Petroleum Dealers, Distributors, Agents, and Petrol Pump Owners’ Association’s Rajshahi division president Mizanur Rahman Ratan and general secretary Abdul Jalil.

According to the statement, the Roads and Highways Department in Naogaon carried out a sudden eviction drive without prior notice, official communication, or formal warning.

This move has deeply frustrated and angered petrol pump owners, who have strongly condemned and protested the action.

The association asserted that its members have been operating legally for years, complying with all government regulations and maintaining valid licences while paying regular taxes that contribute to the national economy.

The eviction, conducted without prior intimation, was deemed highly regrettable.

In response to this unexpected development, all petrol pump owners in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions have suspended fuel extraction and sales indefinitely. Additionally, they have called for a transport strike in solidarity with their protest.
